Short Breaks in Amsterdam
Holland's capital city, Amsterdam, has a great reputation for
short weekends away - and rightly so. It's packed with great things
to see and do, whether you're a history hunter wanting to explore
the museums and 17th century architecture, or whether you're looking
for an amazing nightlife that you won't forget in a hurry.
But what else is there other than Amsterdam? The Netherlands is actually home to a number fascinating cities which are worth a visit. Eindhoven is known to be a real creative hub. It's closely associated with Philips, the first multi-national company to come out of Holland, and was rebuilt after the war as a modern town with a vibrant design and technology community. Eindhoven is of course also home to the famous football team, PSV Eindhoven. Rotterdam has one of the most unique and interesting skylines anywhere in Europe. Like many cities in the Netherlands, it had to be rebuilt following the devastation of World World II, and the people of Rotterdam embraced this challenge by turning the city into a centre for cutting edge design. Maastricht put its name to the controversial treaty signed by Europe's leaders. It's actually Holland's oldest city and combines beautiful old buildings with modern developments.
